Abigail, a mini donkey born in 2011, was donated to Happy Trails by Janice & Phillip Castle for the 2012 Round Up in October. To calm her nerves, Abigail spent a few days at the facility before starring in the event. During her short stay at Happy Trails everyone fell in love with this sweet, spunky, and adorable little donkey, including staff, riders, other horses, and especially the volunteers.
When it was Abigail’s turn to go up for the live auction during the event – our grand finale – the bidding war began and competition was fierce, but in the end, a group of several volunteers formed together to purchase Abigail and donate her back to Happy Trails! They have since deemed themselves “Abigail’s Entourage.”
Now that Abigail is a permanent part of the herd, she continues to infatuate everyone she meets. “Abby” has quickly become the unofficial mascot for Happy Trails. She teaches our riders that it’s okay to be different because in a barn full of horses, it’s pretty fun to be a mini-donkey!
